We find that the best books are discovered by friends. We like to share a good find, or a quick read, or a book with someone who may not have otherwise picked it up. Or maybe you just got to that newest book before your friend did and you can't wait to tell them how great it was. Either way, good word travels fast and we want to share with you our latest reads and what we thought about them.
Not gonna lie, I was a little intimidated by the size of this book. Seven-hundred and four full pages is a pretty good-sized book, but I can say every page captured my full attention. The reviews of this book describe it as "epic," "page-turner," and "the Lonesome Dove of our decade" and I whole-heartedly agree. The book follows an Arkansas family through the Civil War and each chapter gives the reader an insight into their world during this terrible time in our country's history. It is sometimes brutal and graphic, and other times very delicate and heart warming. If you enjoy a story like, Cold Mountain, you will love this.
This is a really good read that reads much like a Western mystery novel except you realize its all true facts and really happened during the 1920's (Reign of Terror). This is a piece of American History that few have heard about and surely not to the extent in which the author portrays it. The hardships and crimes that were inflicted upon the Osage people for decades are hard to fathom. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes to read mysteries of is interested in Western history.
Recently I re-read one of my faovrite novels from when I was a kid. It is the first in a series that follow a mouse, Hermux Tantamog, who has a simple life and is suddenly inundated with adventure, mystery, and murder. Whether he is taking care of his pet ladybug, resucing the woman of his dreams, or is simply at war with his insane landlady, the excitement never ends. Time Stops for No Mouse, as well as it's sequels, have earned a permanent home on my bookshelf.
